Garbage:

Garbage collection is every week. Johns will continue collection on your current day of service for all customers with curbside collection. Johns will collect each service day in a different way than your current provider. Please note – your collection time will most likely change. We recommend having your cart(s) to the curb the night before your service day. Collection in the City will commence each day at 6:00 a.m.

Please place the following items in your BROWN, 95-GALLON GARBAGE CART:

– Bagged household garbage

– Plastic bags & plastic wrap

– Packing material (i.e. Styrofoam, packing bags, etc.)

– Ceramic dishes, plates and tile

– Light Bulbs

– Food waste and “to-go” containers

– Construction materials

 

The following items are BANNED from landfills:

– Electronics

– Hazardous waste

– Tires

– Motor Oil

Recycling:

Your recyclables are transported to and processed by the Waukesha County Joint Materials Recycling Facility located in the City of Milwaukee. Click Here to learn more about this program.

 

Please place the following items in your GREEN, 95-GALLON RECYCLE CART:

Containers:

– Tin cans, steel cans, aerosol cans, dried paint cans (empty and clean).

– Glass bottles & Jars

– #1, 2 & 5 plastic bottles or containers with twist tops

– Cartons (juice boxes, milk cartons, etc.)

– Clean aluminum foil

 

Mixed Paper:

– Newspaper, magazines, books, mail, school / office paper

– Brown corrugated cardboard – PLEASE FLATTEN ALL BOXES

– Cereal & shoe boxes

– Brown paper bags

– Shredded paper (in a clear plastic bag)

 

Please DO NOT place the following items in your Recycle Cart:

– Plastic bags

– Styrofoam

– Garbage

– Yard Waste

– Batteries

– Hazardous waste

– Ammunition

– ‘Tanglers’ (hoses, Christmas lights, rope, chain, etc.)

Bulk Items:

Residents in the City of New Berlin are eligible to receive bulk items collections up to two times per month at no additional cost. Each pickup includes bulk items. Any item which does not fit in your Garbage or Recycling cart must be scheduled for collection. Bulk item collection options will be available multiple times per month. There are three options for scheduling a bulk pickup:

NEW in New Berlin: Curbside Electronics Collection – Residents of the City may exchange up to two of their 24 bulk items pickups per year to have ONE (1) qualified household electronic item collected.

 

Bulk Items include, but are not limited to:

– Furniture

– Carpeting (cut into 4 ft. lengths, tied and bundled)

– Cardboard boxes (emptied and flattened)

– Appliances (including Freon appliances)

– Automotive batteries

– Tires (maximum 2 per bulk pickup, up to 8 per year)

– Drain Oil (sealed, labeled, in 1-5 gallon containers – labeled)

– Antifreeze (sealed, labeled, in 1-5 gallon containers – labeled)

– Construction materials – MUST BE CONTAINED in 32-gallon containers, max weight 50 lbs.

 

Items NOT included in Bulk Collection:

– Yard Waste

– Hazardous Waste

 

 

 

Residents are encouraged to verify City ordinances regarding the placement of materials at the curb for collection.

Up-the-Drive Service:

 

Johns Disposal will offer optional up-the-drive service for residents in the City of New Berlin at an additional cost. With up-the-drive collection, Johns will service smaller, manual collection cans at the top of the driveway near the garage. Both garbage and recycling will be collected every week.

 

Collection Rates Per Month (minimum one-year commitment, paid in advance):

2022 – $19.95

2023 – $20.75

2024 – $21.58

2025 – $22.44

2026 – $23.34

 

Homes will be serviced by a small, one-ton pickup truck. Garbage and recycling will be collected in a single pass. When possible, containers must be visible from the road. Residents will receive (1) 32-gallon blue bin with lid for recycling. Each home must supply its own container(s) for garbage, not to exceed 32-gallons in capacity. Residents must call to schedule bulk items collection at the curb.

Optional Yard Waste Collection:

 

Johns Disposal will provide on-call yard waste collection for residents in the City of New Berlin from April 1 – November 30. Residents must call our office at 262-473-4700 to schedule and pay for each collection.

 

Collection Rates (per scheduled pickup):

2022 – $50.00

2023 – $52.00

2024 – $54.08

2025 – $56.24

2026 – $58.49

 

Each scheduled collection includes up to (3) three cubic-yards of yard waste. Materials must be properly prepared for collection in one of the following ways: (1) contained in PAPER biodegradable bags; (2) contained in 32-gallon containers which do not exceed 50 lbs. and / or (3) tied and bundled, not to exceed (4) four feet in length. No loose piles of yard waste will be collected. For the purposes of these collections, yard waste is defined as: grass clippings, garden debris, leaves, brush (if tied and bundled), and branches less than (5) five inches in diameter. Yard waste does not include:  dirt, sod rolls, root balls, branches, logs or stumps greater than (5) five inches in diameter or black walnuts.

Collection Day:

Collection days will not change in 2022.  Collection time will change.  Please have your trash and recycle out by 6am on your collection day or the night before collection.

JOHNS will begin providing service to the City of New Berlin the week of January 3, 2022.
