Garbage Collection Every Week

All material must fit in the brown (garbage) cart. Automated trucks cannot pick up any material that is next to the cart. Please put the garbage cart out the night before your collection day or by 6:00am the morning of pickup.

Please place the following in the Brown Garbage Cart:

  • Mixed trash
  • Plastic wrap & bags
  • Broken toys
  • Ceramics
  • Light bulbs
  • Bagged garbage & food waste
  • Styrofoam & other loose trash

Do not put the following items in the garbage:

  • Yard waste
  • Recyclables
  • Household hazardous waste
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Construction materials

Please put bagged trash in the brown cart. Bags that are tied keep the carts clean. Loose garbage can be put in the brown cart.

Curbside Cart Location

(The arrows on the lid of the cart must point to the road)

  • The garbage cart should be placed within 2 ft. of the curb on one side of the driveway
  • The recycle cart should be placed within 2 ft. of the curb on the other side of the driveway
  • Please keep 6 ft. of clearance between the carts and other objects, especially mailboxes, vehicles and bulk items

Garbage collection is every week.

Residents must call Johns Disposal’s office to schedule a bulk item collection.  Residents may call our office M-F from 8am – 4:30pm and Saturday 8am – noon to schedule a collection.  Bulk item collection will be scheduled each week throughout each month.  Residents will no longer need to wait until  the last Thursday of the month.

IMPORTANT NOTE – residents will be limited to ONE scheduled bulk items collection per year.  Bulk item collection is limited to 4 cubic yards or 500 lbs.

NOTICE: Most municipalities have an ordinance requiring that items not be placed at the curb sooner than 24-hours prior to your scheduled pickup. Please check your local code and do not have items out too early. We recommend that no items are placed at the curb prior to scheduling collection.

 Bulk items include, but are not limited to:

  • Furniture
  • Carpeting (cut into 4 foot sections rolled and bundled  together)
  • Large cardboard boxes (emptied & flattened)
  • Appliances
  • Automotive batteries
  • Tires (up to 2 per month / pickup, maximum 8 per year)
  • Drain oil (must be sealed in 1-5 gallon containers, clearly marked USED OIL)
  • Antifreeze (must be sealed in 1-5 gallon containers, clearly marked ANTIFREEZE)
  • Larger items, such as hot tubs and pianos, must be cut up or disassembled with parts weighing no more than 50lbs.
  • Paint cans (must be empty and dry OR filled with oil dry / kitty litter and completely dry)
  • Construction materials (Must be contained in 32-gallon or smaller containers, weighing no more than 50 lbs, with any boards cut down to 4 ft. or smaller lengths)

*All items must weigh no more than 50 lbs and be easily manageable by one person.

Please do not place the following out for bulk:

  • Yard waste
  • Hazardous materials
  • Electronics

2021 Collection Dates:

Saturday May 8

Saturday November 13

  • Please place yard waste and brush at the curb by 6:00 a.m.
  • Place items within 6 feet of curb if possible.
  • Do not put out non-compostable materials for yard waste pickup.
  • Yard waste must be placed in compostable paper bags or clearly marked containers.
  • Yard waste in any kind of plastic bag will no longer be accepted.
  • Brush must be in bundles weighing no more than 50 lbs and in lengths of no more than 4 feet.
  • Materials that exceed the weight or length limit will not be collected.
  • Collections are limited to 10 minutes per home.
  • Yard waste that is in cans or paper bags may be brought to JOHNS facility at 107 Hwy U, Whitewater for no extra charge.

Collection Day:

The Town of Mukwonago’s collection day is Thursday.

Collection Schedule:

The garbage (brown cart) is emptied on a weekly basis. The recycling (green cart) is emptied every other week.
