Garbage Collection Every Week

Please place in the garbage:

  • Mixed trash
  • Plastic wrap & bags
  • Broken toys
  • Ceramics
  • Light bulbs
  • Bagged garbage & food waste
  • Styrofoam & other loose trash

Do not put the following items in the garbage:

  • Yard waste
  • Recyclables
  • Household hazardous waste
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Construction materials

Important Information:

Garbage cans must be no larger than 40 gallons. Please place garbage and recycling within 2 feet of the curb and 6 feet apart, recycle cart lid arrow facing the road. Please place garbage/recycling at the curb the night before service or by 6am on your day of service. The recycle cart is for “single stream” recycling. All recycle items are to be placed loose in the recycle cart, no sorting or bagging is necessary. (except shredded paper) Bulk item pick up will be weekly on your day of service.

(Local clean sweep programs may offer alternative options for disposal of fluorescent light bulbs, household hazardous waste, pharmaceuticals & electronics.)

Recycle Collection Every other Week

Please place in recycle cart:


  • Aluminum cans & clean aluminum foil
  • Tin cans, steel cans, aerosol cans, empty/dried paint cans, small scrap metal
  • Glass bottles & jars
  • #1-7 plastic
  • Milk cartons, juice boxes, soup cartons


  • Newspaper, magazines, books, mail, school/office paper
  • Brown corrugated cardboard (flattened)
  • Gray chipboard (cereal & shoe boxes)
  • Brown paper bags


  • Please put in a secured clear plastic bag, and place in or next to the cart.

Do not put the following items in the green recycle cart

  • Styrofoam of any kind
  • Yard waste
  • Trash
  • Household hazardous waste
  • Construction materials
  • Clothing


  • Furniture, carpeting (no wider than 4ft & rolled)
  • Extra garbage bags or garbage in personal cans
  • Large metal items
  • Cardboard (flattened & empty)
  • Appliances
  • Tires (2 per home per month – 8 per year)
  • Drain oil & antifreeze (sealed in 1-5 gallon containers)
  • Paper and other recyclables should be in clear plastic bags
  • Humidifiers/de-humidifiers, water softeners, air conditioners

Recycle carts are not emptied by bulk collection crews


  • Yard waste

  • Electronics
  • Loose bulk construction materials

All items for bulk pick up should be placed within 2 feet of curbside and 6 feet from the garbage/recycle containers.

Collection Day:

Dunkirk’s collection day is on Friday.

Collection Schedule:

Garbage will be collected every week. Residents must use their own trash cans and bags for garbage. The green recycle cart will be emptied every other week. Download the collection calendar for detailed information on what week recycle will be collected.
